Free and Cheap Web Hosting Options for Conscious Consumer
Consumers are always looking for good deals on the internet concerning web hosting and space. You should also consider how long the hosting company has been in business.
A free service provides benefits to all people and may sound like a good idea but the goal is to do your research to see if the deals are viable or not. Free services can also bring other unwanted things that you have to deal with when you sign up for the service. Usually, you have to submit to advertising and surveys by filling out a form before you can get your free service. Be sure that you read the user agreements that come with the free services.
Free sites also come with some cool stuff, such as counters, guestbooks, virtual domain names, tracking logs, blogs, copy and past scripts that are usually Java code scripts and more. These additions are good for people that have little or no knowledge into building a web site.
You can go on the cheap and don’t want advertisements running on your site, you can get a service similar to free hosting but you would have to pay a small fee to keep your web page ad-free. Some of these providers will offer you a service for $4.95 a month with 500MB of web space if that’s all that you need, and you can always upgrade your packages.
Finding free web space on the Internet is fairly easy. All you have to do is use a simple Web search (Yahoo, MSN or Google) and the results should bring back options for free web space. There are many individuals and businesses looking for a place to put their website without having to pay for the service. These free services can provide anywhere from 5MB to 100Mb of online web space for hosting your web site.
There are many web hosting companies competing for your Web site hosting dollars, and you can find some pretty good deals if you search hard enough. I personally don’t recommend free hosting because you never know when they might disappear.

Hi Bruno,
You hit on an important point for free hosting - removal. We never know when your blog or site will be removed by the host due to violation of their terms. But we can at least keep the domain name should a paid web hosting removed our site. I stand by your point on getting a web hosting service.

I agree. With free hosting there is always a risk on violating their TOS plus they can just shut down without notice

One should be very careful while picking cheap hosting… But shared hosting providers like hostmonster, hostgator, bluehosting etc are pretty reliable. Yahoo’s small business services are good as well…
Cheap = low up time, pathetic customer support, and performance issues because you never know how many thousand domains they host on one server

Yes there are many good reliable shared hosters out there. Even those have their problems at times too. Cheap or free hosting only causes frustration in the long run.

Bruno, I Agree with you. Cheap or free hosting only causes frustration in the long run. If we plan to make a serious blog, I think we should consider to pay for VPS

Yes free hosting is always a headache but even some shared hosting can too. Shared hosting is a good place to start though.

I’ve written several times on this topic. Free or really cheap in certain aspects of ones business (hosting, autoreponders, and so on) are a superbly bad idea for a multitude of reasons.

I have sen several posts on this topic. Some people just don’t get the fact that free is not always necesarily good. In my opinion, if you can spend more than $5 per month buying coffee at the coffee shop you sure as well can afford hosting.

I’m confused, aren’t you advocating free here?

Bruno,
I guess free hosting is a viable option for some. However, if you are going to treat this as a business, then free hosting is out the door and should not be consider. You have to many things to think about in this business to be worried about the potential of a free hosting service.
Besides, there are just way too many affordable hosting services out there to get involved with to be hunting down free services. Besides, you want the server to be capable of handling more than 10 people a day, but I cannot be mad at bargin hunters. Everyone doesn’t have the dough in the beginning to shell out.

I agree that if you want to be professional about your business then you should pay for reliable hosting.
There are a lot of specials out there these days for hosting so take advantage when you can.

You are better off paying a few bucks for hosting rather than use free hosting

Why people are still opting for free hosting is really beyond me. If you are in for a long haul and no matter how conscious you are, never ever use a free hosting. It gives the negative perception of your credibility.

Free hosting really annoys me with all the ads and stuff - it makes it hard to establish a good connection because the reading/viewing experience is so interrupted that many will leave before actually reading anything there
