Self-Awareness

By Bruno Auger On January 6, 2009 Posted under General Interests

I have begun a journey to become more self-aware. It is not an easy process that for sure but in time I will accomplish it. I’m sure many of you are wonder what  self-awareness is as I did when I first start this journey.

Self-awareness is about trying to understand who you are and why we do the things we do, and the manner we do them in. When becoming more self-aware, we gain a better understanding on how we operate in the present instead of reacting to something familiar with in our past.

Being self aware in knowing:

  • Your weakness and strengths
  • how you related with others
  • what you need to improve as a person
  • how you see yourself
  • what you want to change to better your life or yourself
  • what you want in your life

Once you have pinpointed the causes of your actions you can begin the journey of repairing yourself and making a better life for you and those you come in contact with.  Coming to face the different dimensions of yourself that you may not enjoy too much, you will gain a better appreciation of your own existence.

Becoming self aware does not mean being selfish though. Discovering the inner you will allow  you to give more of yourself to others and this will benefit your relationships as well as helping to build your self esteem and confidence as you become truer to yourself

Here are a few other self-awareness articles I found useful in my search to become self-aware.

Self Awareness is a difficult task to perform, and it will surely take time….

There is one important aspect about this. Motivation. If we don’t have motivation to correct what we think it is needed to correct to make us a better person, then we can’t achieve anything. Sadly, many persons know what they need to change, but simply don’t fight for the better change….

It is indeed tough to perform self awareness and there are times where we know the problem with ourselves but we just ignore it or trying to hide from the problem. I guess this is all human nature right?

Yes we pretty much ignore things when it comes up. People rarely problem solve when problem exists. Yes I guess you could say its human nature.

Bruno - self-awareness, for me, is a wonderful life long journey. Each day, each experience is an opportunity for celebration and transformation. Yes, celebration - that we are living and learning, embracing self-awareness as a practice and celebrating our strengths and contributions. Transformation is a word I prefer to “change” as it implies that we can take the energy of even those aspects of ourselves we find difficult to bear and inside them is a nugget of gold. Transformation is like alchemy. We do not need to leave any part of ourselves behind, but rather dust off our biases, prejudices and illusions to uncover the vibrant being we really are. GOOD LUCK on your journey.
